SPIN - Cricinfo - Account FAQ (Compliant 13.05.05)

How to Open an Account with SportingIndex.com
Before opening an account, please note that sports spread betting is different from traditional forms of betting. It involves a higher level of risk, and you can lose more than your initial stake. It is not suitable for everyone so please ensure you understand the risks involved and only bet with money you can afford to lose.

Applying for an account with SportingIndex.com is a relatively straightforward process, just follow the instructions below. Please note that credit & suitability checks, and term & conditions may apply.

UK Applicants
For further details about an account with Sporting Index, go to SportingIndex.com and click on the 'Join Now' link at the top of the page. This will open another window within which you can complete the on-line application form.

Now you have to decide which type of account you want. There are two to choose from;

1. No Stop Loss Account
If you open an account without a stop loss facility you will be able to place larger bets with greater potential winnings (and losses). More experienced spread bettors tend to choose this type of account.

2. Stop Loss Account
A Stop Loss Account offers you all the thrills of an ordinary spread bet with the added security of limiting risk. A Stop Loss Account offers you the chance to spread bet with a safety net.

  • Every bet placed through a Stop Loss Account is subject to a maximum stop loss. This means you will know the most you can win or lose every time you place a bet.
  • Small minimum stakes allow you to enjoy spread betting without the risk.
  • For sheer convenience, Stop Loss Account holders can arrange for their cards to be card-managed, meaning balances can be settled automatically on a fortnightly basis through your debit account.

    Once you have chosen an account you then need to decide how you wish to run it;

    1. Credit
    if you wish to have a credit account, evidence of funds must be provided. This should be in the form of either a current bank or building society statement, showing a month of transactions with an amount held consistently that is three times the credit limit requested, or a share valuation that is six times the limit requested, or evidence of self-employment.

    2. Deposit
    if you would like a deposit account you just need to put funds in your account, either by cheque, switch or credit card.

    Having decided on the above, submit the application form and Sporting Index will endeavour to open your account within 24 hours. If you have any questions or queries please contact their Customer Services team on 08000 96 96 07 or email enquiries@sportingindex.com.

    International Applicants (including Republic of Ireland)
    Please follow the instructions as above, however overseas applicants will be required to show two further pieces of information.

    1. Proof of identification
    Financial Services Authority guidelines insist that you provide a photocopy of your passport to support your application.

    2. Proof of address
    We also need confirmation of your home address in the form of a recent utility bill or bank statement, dated within the last two months.

    Should you have any queries about any aspect of opening an account please call the Sporting Index Customer Services team on +44 207 840 4050 or e-mail enquiries@sportingindex.com

    Sporting Index is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.
