1. The sites - CricInfo.com and Wisden.com

CricInfo.com and Wisden.com form part of an international network of cricket sites hosted and operated by Wisden CricInfo Ltd. The sites are made up of official and unofficial sites which are run by CricInfo alone, or in association with cricket boards, organisations, or cricket enthusiasts. All sites carry either a CricInfo logo, a Wisden logo, or the wording "Powered by CricInfo" to identify the site.

2. What this Privacy Policy covers

This privacy policy covers the treatment of personally identifiable information which is or has been collected when you visit Cricinfo.com or Wisden.com and when you use Wisden CricInfo's services. It does not apply to the CricShop or other services supplied by partners such as ecommerce, betting or travel (see further section 7 below).

3. What personal information is collected by Wisden CricInfo and when is it collected?

Wisden CricInfo collects information in a number of ways from users at different parts of the sites. In particular, personal information is collected when users register for the site as a whole or for particular services. Registration is usually voluntary, although it may be required to access certain site features or to receive certain services (for example CricInfo Daily newsletter). Wisden CricInfo will also ask users for personal information when users enter competitions or apply for special offers, subscribe to products or affiliation schemes, take part in research via surveys, or submit emails. Information requested will include contact details including name and e-mail address. If you contact Wisden CricInfo, we may keep a record of that correspondence. This policy also covers all past registrations and subscriptions with CricInfo Ltd and Wisden Online Ltd, and applies retrospectively to those records. If users do not wish their registration to continue with Wisden CricInfo, they can instruct the company at any time by following the procedures outlined in section 9 of this Policy.

4. What are cookies and log files and how does Wisden CricInfo use them?

CricInfo also collects information from the site using "cookies" and "IP files".

Cookies

A cookie is a message given by a web browser (which displays your chosen webpages on your computer) to a web server (which delivers the web pages to your computer). The message is stored by your browser and will be used each time you access the site which the cookie relates to. The main objective of the cookie is to identify users and to personalise their visit to the site by customising webpages (for example by welcoming a user to a site by name). For instance, if you accept a cookie on our site, you will not have to enter your password more than once, thereby saving time while on our site. If you reject the cookie, you can still use our site. The only drawback is that you may be limited to some areas of our site. For example, you may not be able to participate in certain competitions and promotions that take place. Cookies can also enable Wisden CricInfo to track and target the interests of users to enhance their experience on our site.

In addition, Wisden CricInfo allows some of its business partners (for example, advertisers and research companies) to use cookies on the site. Wisden CricInfo has no access to or control over these cookies as they come from external sites; they are governed by the companies' privacy policies. Other companies do not have access to Wisden CricInfo's cookies.

Log Files

Wisden CricInfo uses IP (Internet Protocol) addresses to analyse trends, administer the site, track users' movements, and to gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. All users to the Internet have an IP address, which enables networks connected to the Internet to transmit the data and messages submitted by users from one host to another and to ensure messages are understood. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information and therefore the information Wisden CricInfo produces using IP addresses does not enable individual users to be identified.

5. How does Wisden CricInfo use users' personal information?

Wisden CricInfo will process the information that we collect from you and from your use of the site for the following purposes:

  • provision of our services;
  • administration of member and subscription records;
  • to notify you about changes to our website and services;
  • record-keeping for up to six years following termination of our services to you;
  • administration of our competitions, promotions and special offers;
  • technical maintenance;
  • to inform you about services which we, our partners, customers and associated companies offer;
  • to work with sponsors and promoters who wish to provide targeted messages to our users;
  • to work with parties and sponsors on special offers, promotions and competitions;
  • operation and enforcement of our terms and conditions and acceptable use policies (including with regard to our chat facilities, message boards and forums);
  • to transfer our business to a purchaser;
  • compliance with laws and applicable regulations and orders of courts and other competent tribunals; co-operation with the police or any other government body; investigation of claims that your use of our services infringes any right (including our intellectual property rights) or breaches any law, rule, regulation or order and disclosure of your contact details and usage details to the legal advisers of any person claiming that your use of our services infringes any right or breaches any law, rule, regulation or order;
  • where further development of Wisden CricInfo products takes place in future, to provide you with a service that more closely meets your personal needs and circumstances.

In addition, Wisden CricInfo carries out research on user demographics, interests, and behaviour based on the information provided to us directly (for example on registration, during a promotion or during e-commerce transactions) or from log files. The aim of this is to better understand and serve users. This research is compiled and analysed on an aggregated basis and does not enable identification of individual users.

6. Does anyone other than Wisden CricInfo collect information from the CricInfo or Wisden sites?

Except as stated in this Privacy Policy or unless you are informed at the time of collection of information, only Wisden CricInfo collects personal information from the site.

7. Does Wisden CricInfo share user information?

Wisden CricInfo will not sell or rent your personally identifiable information to anyone. Except as described in this Privacy Policy, Wisden CricInfo will not disclose or share your personally identifiable information. The following describes the ways in which user information may be shared.

Partners: Cricket boards, business partners, sponsors, advertisers: Wisden CricInfo may disclose aggregate user information to cricket boards and cricketing organisations, business partners or sponsors or potential advertisers. For example aggregated data collected during a Wisden CricInfo promotion may be shared with a partner for the purposes of assessing the promotion. It is not possible to identify individual users from such aggregated data.

Occasionally Wisden CricInfo will work with sponsors and partners who wish to provide targeted messages to our users. We will tell you about this when you register or at the point when we collect your information; you will be asked if you wish to receive such messages (see Section 8). Wisden CricInfo will collate the information and deliver the email on the partner's behalf, either using Wisden CricInfo’s own servers, or by using a third-party to manage and process the data and deliver the email.

Some of our competitions and promotions offer opportunities for users to receive additional information from sponsors (for example, about the sponsor's services). Details of shared use can be found in the Terms and Conditions of competitions and promotions; you will be asked whether you consent to your details being sent to the sponsor so that you can receive this information when you enter the competition or promotion. By requesting more information, you give Wisden CricInfo permission to transfer your personal information to the sponsor to fulfil this request. Any future transactions or transfer of information will be between the sponsor and you alone and will be outside Wisden CricInfo's control or responsibility.

From time to time, you may be offered the opportunity to receive materials or special offers directly from partners. If you consent to receiving information from these third parties (either at registration or when we tell you about the offer), Wisden CricInfo will pass such personal data as is necessary to facilitate you receiving such information - such as your name, email address and postal address, to such partners. If you subsequently wish to opt out of receiving further information you will need to contact the partner.

CricShop, travel and betting services: CricShop and other transactional facilities are run by partners (such as betting, travel or specialist shopping facilities) and are governed by their own privacy policies. Wisden CricInfo has no responsibility or liability for these independent policies. Information regarding the retailer, their store, and their privacy policies is provided by the relevant partner at the point of purchase/transaction.

Email-a-friend: If you elect to use our referral service for informing a friend about our site, Wisden CricInfo will ask you for your friend's name and email address. Wisden CricInfo will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. Wisden CricInfo will store your friend's name and e-mail address for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email and for no other reason or use. You should only give us your friend's e-mail address if your friend is happy for you to do so.

Links: Wisden CricInfo contains links to other sites. Please be aware that Wisden CricInfo is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. Wisden CricInfo encourages users to be aware when they leave the site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information.

8. What are your choices regarding collection, use, and distribution of your personally identifiable information?

We will always either ask for your consent or give you the option to opt in to receiving offers or information from Wisden CricInfo or its partners, either at registration or when we collect your information. In addition, at any time you can email registration@cricinfo.com to request not to receive such offers and mailings and to have your information removed (see section 9).

On some promotions, such as Fantasy Cricket competitions, Wisden CricInfo will ask for your email address in order to update you on scores, entries and status in prize draws. If you have not already given us consent (for example at registration) in accordance with this privacy policy, you will be given the opportunity to opt in to receiving such updates. You will also receive email notifications from Wisden CricInfo if you have chosen to opt in to this service. Occasionally these promotion-related email messages may include targeted advertisements. If the promotion requires Wisden CricInfo registration, you can opt out of receiving this kind of information by changing your preferences on register.cricinfo.com. If it does not require registration, it will be governed by an independent data protection clause on the promotion itself. You can click on an opt-out box at the time of entry to dictate how your personal information is used.

9. What is Wisden CricInfo's policy on allowing users to update, correct, or delete their personally identifiable information?

If you wish to update or amend the information held by Wisden CricInfo (for example to change contact details or to alter preferences with regard to receiving mailings), please contact registration@cricinfo.com. To update or amend information or preferences held by a third party, for example sponsors of a competition, you will need to contact that third party. If you identify an error in the information held by Wisden CricInfo please contact registration@cricinfo.com. Wisden CricInfo will aim to rectify any notified error within one week of receipt of your request.

Wisden CricInfo registrations can be deleted or deactivated, although doing so will result in not being able to access any area of CricInfo.com or Wisden.com or service that requires registration. Users should contact registration@cricinfo.com, or visit registration.cricinfo.com for further instructions about deleting or deactivating a Wisden CricInfo registration.

10. What other security precautions should users take?

Wisden CricInfo recommends that users do not divulge their Wisden CricInfo registration password to anyone. Wisden CricInfo will never ask users for passwords in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email. Users should also remember to log off from their Wisden CricInfo account and close their browser window when they have finished work. This is to ensure that others cannot access your personal information and correspondence if you share a computer with someone else or are using a computer in a public place such as a library or Internet cafe.

No data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect users' personal information, Wisden CricInfo cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information transmitted to it or from its online products or services, and users do so at their own risk. Once Wisden CricInfo receives your transmission, it makes every effort to ensure its security on its systems.

You should keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online - for example on message boards, through email, or in chat areas that information can be collected and used by others. If you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.

Ultimately, you are solely responsible for keeping your passwords and/or account information secret. You should be careful and responsible whenever you are online.

11. Transfer of data overseas

As a global company Wisden CricInfo has sites and users all over the world. When you give Wisden CricInfo personal information, that information may be used by Wisden CricInfo operations in countries other than where the information was originally entered. For example, and in particular, all registration information is managed by Wisden CricInfo in the UK and by companies under contract to Wisden CricInfo in the UK. Wisden CricInfo may use companies based around the world in connection with particular promotions, for example to send out special offers or competition prizes. The laws of different countries have different levels of data protection. By using Wisden CricInfo's services you are consenting to transfer of your personal information abroad as described in this policy.

12. Children

CricInfo advises that children (under 12) do not register for its services or participate in its competitions and promotions.

13. Notification of Changes

If Wisden CricInfo decides to change its privacy policy, it will post changes on this Privacy Policy page so that users are always aware of what information is collected, how it is used and the way in which information may be disclosed. If Wisden CricInfo makes substantial changes to the way personal information is used, users will be notified by email.
